The simple things

Archives from August 2016 - Finding beauty in the simple things.

Nature Haikus

Golden sunrise of spring
Melting the earth’s harshness.
Along with it, my heart.

House on the prairie
Forged in stature & glory.
Rooftop for a crown.

Raindrops soft my vision,
Yet in them I see clearly.
What a mystery!

The feathers of koi

Ebb to the ripples & flow.

Light flits about the surface,

Resembling lapis lazuli

Flickered with specks of gold.

I could gaze into the pools

& be lulled, like how how a nocturne

Caresses an infant to sleep.

I could draw swirls & loops

Till the fishes laid down &

The waters lapped me up.

By then, I too,

Would have drifted into

An eternal peace;

A pasture of blue—

Shalom.

Hi little flower, I want to know your name.

I know I usually overlook you,

But oh, how pretty you are!

The way the dew trickles down your skin

To forms lucent pearls,

& the way your petals fold delicately

At their edges,

Are all so pretty.

Little flower,

You are so polite,

& oh so pretty.

What is your name?

I don’t know how to comfort you.

I’d wrap my arms around you,

But it’d only feel asphyxiating -

A grip of desolation.

I don’t know how to comfort you.

I’d spill out the words from my heart

But they’d only sound contrived -

A jejune anthem.

I don’t know how to comfort you.

I wish I did.
